Taiwan has won the World Port Tournament for the second time. In 2011, the Taiwanese baseball players needed an extension to Cuba in the final. Today, in Rotterdam, the decision reached in the final against Japan after extra innings. In that, Taiwan scored a winning goal after a crucial error: 3-2.
Third baseman Hsin Chuan Wang (3 out of 4 hits) became the big man at Taiwan. He scored all points in the second and fourth inning, when he had sent his team-mate Yi Hung Chen over the homeplate.
But his main single hit was followed in the tenth inning. Even after that, Japan had scored the equalizer after seven innings without runs, which forced an extension. For this reason, the Japanese baseball players had left the necessary opportunities unused. No less than sixteen runners left Japan on the bases, including eleven in scoring positions and even five in third.
Crucial field error
After Taiwan held his Japanese opponent in the tenth inning from scoring, the team benefited in the second half of the tenth inning of a crucial field error. With one man out and runners on the first and second base leftfielder Yder Yudai Nakanishi hit a high ball. Hsin Chuan Wang flawed the fault mercilessly and hit three pitches later with his walk-off single, after three hours and fourty eight minutes to play the winning run.
For the national team of Japan, second place is the best result ever at the World Port Tournament. In earlier editions (2007, 2009 and 2015), Japan finished fifth and twice in fourth place. Until the final, the Japanese students from the Kansai Big Six Baseball League were the most successful team this tournament. They won five of their seven games. Taiwan became the second team in Rotterdam today with five wins. The selection of baseball players from Taiwan’s industrial teams stood for the third time in the final and became the second time in the Neptunus Familystadium with a victory in the renewal winner of the World Port Tournament Baseball.

In the evening game the beautiful advertisement between the Cuba and Curaçao teams was seen. After Lou Prince song the Curaçao national anthem and the chairman of Febeko, Micheline Heyliger, threw the first ball, it was time for a beautiful game with the resignation for a final spot.
Geonel Ibanez scored the first run of the game: In a very nice way, by a homerun.
The answer from Curaçao came in the next inning when Edinho Meyer and Reangelo Beaumont came home after a RBI from Rojean Cleofa. The Cuban equalizer came soon: Edilse Silva, who scored 2-2. After that, Team Curaçao took the lead after Dennis Gustina scored.
With a firm hit to Frank Morejon in the seventh Cuban inning, pinchrunner Anibal Medina scored the equalizer.
It had to wait until the ninth inning before making a decision: Shurendell Mujica struck a three-base hit which resulted in Dennis Gustina’s score. With this the 3-4 was a fact. A little later in the game, it was the same Mujica who came over the home plate and realized the 3-5.
Despite the attacking pressure of Cuba in the equalizing inning, there was no more score: Curaçao plays at Japan at 13.30 for the resignation and the Netherlands is playing fourth/fifth place at 19.00.

After winning Team Kingdom Of The Netherlands, the Chinese Taipei team again came into action in the afternoon game. Against Japan’s leader, the right line was continued, because this opponent was also bound to the victory. This is the ticket for the final of Sunday.
Already in the first inning, the team emerged from Taiwan: Han Lin made the 0-1 on a single by Yi Hung Chen. In their third inning, the margin increased when Ju Liang Tai got out of a hit pitcher and hit a wild pitch. In the fifth Taiwanese inning, this margin became even more widespread when Tzu Chieh Lin was already in scoring position through a three-point move. He joined Ju Liang Tai after Han Lin produced a single.
A part of the 0-4 backlog cleared when Yudai Nakanishi ended up in a double jump and then came in via a single hit by Pinch Hitter Hirayama. An inning later, even 2-4 came when Masaki Otani came home after a fielders choice of Nakanishi.
Chinese Taipei scored no more in this game, so it was a matter for Japan to reverse the tide with a final slop, but it did not matter, so 2-4 was also the final.

Team Kingdom of The Netherlands did not adjust in the evening game against Japan. The effort against the Cuban team of the evening before, claimed its toll. This resulted in a finalization of
the Japanese team which started offensive and this resulted in the third inning already in a 0-2 lead after Masaki Otani and Koya Araki came across the homeplate. Both players scored from a two-point match of Kenta Fukuhara.
With this, Japan’s hitting team was still slow, because Magashi Yamagishi, Kazuya Suzuki and Daisuke Yamagi made a further lead to 0-5. It did not last for a inning later it was Naoyuki Wakiya and then Yusuke Nakamura, fresh in the team, who expanded the position to 0-7.
A final rally in the ninth inning of the Kingdom team yielded two runs: Both Stijn van der Meer and Max Draijer entered a RBI of Dudley Leonora. A hit by pitcher action then again all bases where loaded, followed by an infield fly. Rachid Engelhardt came in the box with two outs and came on firstbox through base on balls where Gianison Boekhoudt scored for the 3-7. Dwayne Kemp then got three strikes and then became the last out of the game.
Tomorrow, Team Kingdom of The Netherlands plays against Chinese Taipei at 19.00
